Taiwan: Changes in testing requirements for inbound travelers

From August 15, all travelers – regardless of their departure country – are no longer required to provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of their scheduled departure. Individuals testing positive for Covid-19 while abroad must wait more than seven days from their last positive test before making arrangements to travel to Taiwan.

Travelers eligible to enter Taiwan are as follows:

  • Foreign national ARC/APRC/Gold Card holders
  • Foreign national Gold Card approval holders; Hong Kong/Macau Chinese nationals who hold a valid TRC, valid copy TRC, valid Gold Card or Gold Card approval
  • Chinese nationals who hold a valid 依親/長期居留 (Taiwan national’s spouse with a valid TRC)
  • Chinese nationals with valid Exit-Entry Permit (EEP) approved after March 7, 2022, to perform services and as intra-company transfers
  • Valid special entry permits granted by a relevant TECO after March 7, 2022

Quarantine requirements:

  • Travelers may quarantine at a relatives residence, if they will stay in a separate room with a separate washroom facility; and that they will not reside with individuals 65 years and older, children six years and under, or persons with chronic diseases. If these conditions cannot be met, travelers must quarantine in a government-authorized hotel.
  • A three-day hotel quarantine is required for all travelers (including foreign nationals and Taiwanese), plus four days of self-health management. Failure to do so will result in a fine of NT 100,000 to NT 1,000,000.

Mozambique: New visa changes and implementation

The government of Mozambique announced that the short-term tourist visa will be changed to a joint tourist visa with a validity period up to 90 days. A new visa waiver program will be available for selected nationalities with the ability to stay for 90 days. Although the list of nationalities and the permitted business activities are not yet announced, it is expected foreign nationals will benefit from the new program as tourists and business visitors.

Qatar: Entry requirements

Due to the FIFA World Cup tournament, entry to Qatar will be restricted to Hayya card holders, residents and nationals of Qatar. This new measure will be effective November 1, 2022, to January 23, 2022. World Cup ticket holders with confirmed accommodation can apply for the card.

Switzerland: Process delays

It is expected foreign nationals will face some delays for the in-country processing steps after starting work. This is due to the authorities sending out invitations two months after the foreign national’s arrival, and biometric submissions will have two/three months scheduling delays. As such, issuance of Residence Permits (RP) is now taking up to three to four months and the delays may restrict Schengen travel options for affected applicants, even though foreign nationals are permitted to work and stay in the country.
